Our school is divided into two campuses and welcomes students with special needs, such as intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders or psychopathological disorders.
I am particularly proud of our team. We are a group of passionate individuals with a shared goal of helping students gain skills and independence. As a parent of a child with special needs, I understand the challenges that students and their families face.
At Peter Hall School, we focus on each student’s unique needs by establishing an individualized education plan. We aim to prepare students for life after school while respecting their needs, learning pace and dignity.

Our clientele
Peter Hall School is a private school that is recognized and subsidized in the public interest by the ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur.
We serve students aged 4 to 21 with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders or psychopathological disorders. These students may or may not have associated disabilities.
Instruction is offered in French and English.
Our mission

Peter Hall School
- Provides specialized educational services to students with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders and psychopathological disorders.
- Meets individual needs through innovative and diverse educational programs and learning opportunities.
- Creates a student-centered educational program that addresses students’ strengths, abilities and learning needs.
- Inspires and supports all students to reach their full learning potential.
- Creates a safe, supportive and stimulating learning environment that is adapted to the needs of students in order to foster their personal and social development.
- Provides ongoing professional development opportunities for its personnel in the field of special education in order to maintain high-quality service.
- Promotes a collaborative approach to develop realistic and appropriate educational programming for students.
- Establishes partnerships with parents to promote their involvement in their child’s education.
- Provides training opportunities and internships for students at the college and university levels.
- Contributes to research projects for the development of pedagogical expertise.
- Shares information and expertise with other schools and service providers that work with individuals with special needs.
- Promotes social integration and active participation of the student in the community.

History
1935
Parents of children with intellectual disabilities initiate schooling for their children in several locations on the Island of Montreal.
1950 to 1960
Associations for people with intellectually disabilities are formed. Thanks to financial support from parents and friends, these children are able to attend school.
1964
The School is officially named Peter Hall in honour of Lawrence (Laurie) Hall, a dedicated champion of the cause, and his son Peter, who attended classes started by the Montreal Association for the Intellectually Handicapped.
1970
Peter Hall School becomes incorporated and, as an establishment serving the public interest, it is recognized and fully subsidized by the ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement Supérieur. The School offers its services in English and in French.
1980
The School now has four campuses on the Island of Montreal, as well as several service points covering the Greater Montreal Area. An individualized education program is developed.
1990 to 2000
Schooling ceases to be offered to students over 21 years of age. Some campuses are closed and the organization is streamlined. A campus is built to suit the needs of our students. A second campus is also purchased and renovated. Research and development efforts are increased.
2000
The School develops and implements a new education program designed to meet the specific needs of our students and educational reform requirements.
2001
The School creates a foundation to help raise financial support for the School and its development.
2008
The Foundation completes its first major campaign and raises $1.3 million for the purchase of a new campus. The School restructures its services and decides to operate two campuses in the Saint‑Laurent borough. The Ouimet Campus is dedicated to preschool and elementary students (aged 4 to 11) and the Côte-Vertu Campus serves high school students (aged 12 to 21). The head office is adjacent to the Côte-Vertu Campus.
2015
The School introduces a new program named Gateway. Its purpose is to help students integrate into the community and businesses.
2017
The Foundation completes its second major fundraising campaign and raises over $2 million for the expansion of the Côte-Vertu Campus.
